How to Revive a Lapsed LIC Policy as an NRI

Forgot to pay premiums after moving abroad? Don't worry. most lapsed LIC policies can be revived. Here's exactly how.

Act quickly! The longer your policy stays lapsed, the higher the revival cost and the risk of losing revival eligibility. Most policies can be revived within 5 years of lapse.

Step-by-Step Revival Process

1

Check if Your Policy Can Be Revived

LIC allows revival within 5 years of the first unpaid premium (in some cases up to policy term). Contact LIC or your agent to check if your specific policy is eligible for revival.

2

Calculate the Revival Amount

You'll need to pay all unpaid premiums plus interest (typically 9-10% per annum). LIC will provide the exact revival amount. For NRIs, payment can be made via NRE/NRO account.

3

Choose Revival Scheme

LIC offers multiple revival schemes: Ordinary Revival (pay all dues + interest), Special Revival (may have relaxed conditions during special campaigns), and Installment Revival (pay dues in installments for some plans).

4

Complete the Revival Form

Fill out the Revival Form (available from LIC branch or agent). For NRIs, this can often be done by an authorized person in India with a Power of Attorney.

5

Medical Examination (if required)

If the policy has been lapsed for a long time or the sum assured is high, LIC may require a fresh medical exam. This can be done at an LIC-empanelled hospital near you (even abroad for some locations).

6

Submit Documents and Payment

Submit the revival form, documents, and payment to the servicing LIC branch. NRIs can authorize a family member or agent to submit on their behalf.

7

Policy Revived

Once LIC processes the revival (usually 7-15 working days), your policy becomes active again with full benefits restored. You'll receive a revival confirmation.
